Tourism development is projected to be a key driver of economic development in Armenia''s rural areas, and particularly along its southern corridor. Along with healthcare and education, tourism is one of the target sectors that the National Competitiveness Foundation of Armenia has identified as having the potential for breakthrough development in competitiveness.

The Tatev Revival Project is based on the strategy of promoting tourism centered on Tatev Monastery and the six surrounding villages. The monastery and the new aerial tramway are the highlights that will draw people to the region. But a set of new attractions and community-based activities will pique visitors'' interest further, increasing their length of stay and boosting the region''s economy. These include ecotourism activities, a network of nature trails, seasonal festivals, and interactive museums like the one at the Tatev Oil Mill. We envision tourism in Tatev to be environmentally friendly and community-based, giving visitors the opportunity to have unforgettable cultural, nature-based and culinary experiences in an authentic rural setting.

The total cost of the Tatev Revival Project's two main tourism initiatives is $395,000 of which $20,000 has already been raised. $375,000 is still needed to fund these exciting new initiatives that will develop a culture of community-based tourism in Tatev and beyond.
